The government has appointed Sarbendra Nath Khanal as IGP of Nepal Police and Shailendra Khanal as that of Armed Police Force (APF).
The Cabinet meeting held at the prime minister's official residence in Blauwatar Tuesday evening has selected the Khanal duo to head the police and paramilitary forces.
DIGs Ramesh Kharel and Pushkar Karki were also in the race to lead the Nepal Police.
Nepal Police IGP Prakash Aryal and AIGs Kamal Singh Bam, Keshari Raj Ghimire, Jaya Bahadur Chand, Devendra Subedi, Pankaj Shrestha, Pashupati Upadhyaya, Bam Bahadur Bhandari, Bijay Kumar Bhatta, Bijay Lal Kayastha, Madhu Prasad Pudasaini, Madhav Prasad Nepal, Madhav Prasad Joshi, Mingmar Lama, Rana Bahadur Chand and Hemanta Bahadur Pal are retiring on Wednesday.
