Nepali Congress (NC) will hold election for parliamentary party leader on Monday. NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prakash Man Singh have filed candidacy in the election for which voting will be held from 10 am to 1 pm at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar.
There will be election after Singh filed nomination for the post from Ram Chandra Paudel faction despite Deuba wishing to be repeated as parliamentary party leader on consensus. The duo filed nominations at the parliamentary party office on Sunday.
Deuba filed his candidacy through an agent with Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar proposing his candidacy and Man Bahadur Bishwokarma supporting it. Sita Devi Yadav proposed Singh's candidacy and Sanjay Gautam supported it.
NC have 63 House of Representatives (HoR) members including 40 elected through proportional representation (PR) system. Counting will start immediately after completion of voting.
NC's parliamentary party executive committee will have 26 members that will be elected after the election for parliamentary party leader, according to the party statute.
The parliamentary party leader appoints deputy leader and the party's leader in the National Assembly, as per the statute. The parliamentary party leader also appoints chief whip of the party in the National Assembly on recommendation of the chief whip in HoR.
