Former Kamlari (bonded girl laborer) Krishni Tharu has been elected the Deputy Speaker of Province 5.
Tharu, who was supported by the left alliance and other parties including the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha, received 66 votes in the election of Deputy Speaker of the province held Sunday. Likewise, her closest rival Rina B.K. from the Nepali Congress received 19 votes.
Speaker of the province Purna Bahadur Gharti administered the oath of office and secrecy to Tharu Sunday itself amid a program.
Tharu was elected a State Assembly (SA) member in the recently held elections to the State Assemblies from the CPN (Maoist Center).
Similarly, prior to the Sunday's SA meeting, the province Speaker Gharti read out the appointment of the CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party leader Shankar Pokharel as the Chief Minister of the province.
