The Department of Civil Registration is waiting for the direction from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to implement the government recent decision to provide old age allowance to citizens above 65.
The government on January 25 through the Cabinet meeting decided to acknowledge citizens completing 65 eligible for receiving the old age allowance by lowering age requirement by five years.
According to Department's social security section's section officer Sabita Basnet, direction from the Ministry is necessary to implement the government new decision regarding the distribution of allowance.
The old age allowance introduced and implemented by the then UML-led government in 2051 BS under the social security scheme with the amount of Rs 100 per month has now reached Rs 1,000 per month.
