Minister of State for Labor and Employment Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary has tendered resignation taking moral responsibility for failure to make Dang the temporary capital of Province 5.
"I sincerely tried to make Dang the capital of Province 5. But the senior leaders did not listen to my voice. I have, therefore, resigned," Chaudhary, who has been elected to the provincial assembly from Dang-3(A), confirmed with Setopati his resignation submitted on Monday. He stated that he has informed Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba and all the top leaders. "PM was angry and asked me to continue in the government. But I have tendered resignation," he added.
He claimed that ignoring Dang, that lies at the center of the province, and selecting Rupandehi, that is at one corner of the province and is very far from the other corner, as the temporary capital is an injustice to the people of Dang. He added that Butwal was made temporary capital due to pressure from leaders like Bal Krishna Khand and others despite his sincere efforts to make Dang the capital.
He revealed that Khand and other leaders slammed him for his role in the movement in Dang after Rupandehi was announced temporary capital.
He stated that the provincial government to be formed soon should announce Dang as provincial capital. "Leader from Dang (UML leader Shankar Pohkarel) will certainly become the chief minister (CM) and the left alliance has majority in the province. I, therefore, believe they will make Dang the capital," he stressed.
The left alliance had agreed to make Pokharel, who hails from Dang, as the CM before the election. CPN (Maoist Center) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who has been elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Dang, has also been vocal in his support for Dang as provincial capital.
