Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Yagya Bahadur Thapa has said that the government does not have the right to determine the province capitals.
He said this while inaugurating the Safal National Industrial Trade and Second Mobile Fair, organized by the Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sponsored by Laxmi Group, at the Pokhara Exhibition Center Thursday.
Thapa said that constitutionally only the Province Assembly can fix the province capital by two-thirds votes. He, however, said that the government would fix the place from where the Province Assembly will carry out its works and appoint the province chiefs soon.
He stated that it would not be possible to obtain prosperity and economic development for the country without collaborating with the private sector.
Province Assembly member Bindu Kumar Thapa said the trade fairs like this one would reenergize the economic activities. He stressed that the ruling and the opposition parties should now work for the country's development and prosperity by banishing corruption.
Speaking at the program attended by Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Bishwa Shankar Palikhe, vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Dhakal, FNCCI's Province no 4 president Sanjiv Kumar Koirala, Chief District Officer Taranath Adhikari, President of Gorkha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shrawan Kumar Joshi highlighted the importance of the trade fair.
The trade fair with the slogan 'Investment Promotion and Development of Industry and Business' will last until January 22. The trade fair has 290 stalls of industrial goods, agricultural products, handicraft goods, IT-related appliances and gadgets, education and health promo materials, banking sector and various governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Cultural programs including folk duet song competition, dance competition and concert by Nepal's famous musical bands are the other highlights of the trade fair.
