Dr Govinda KC has told the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday that he is a sovereign citizen and not subject during his defense in the contempt of court against him.
A joint bench of justices Purushottam Bhandari and Bam Kumar Shrestha has been hearing the case that was initiated by the SC on its own on Monday after Dr KC started a hunger strike demanding resignation of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli.
Dr KC started his defense himself after advocates completed pleading on behalf of the petitioner. "Gopal Parajuli has phoned and threatened our friends," Dr KC stated. "The police reached in a short time after I started my fast-unto-death. I was arrested without an order. I am a sovereign citizen, not subject," he added.
He reiterated that he respects judges but will fight against anybody who sells justice. "I am ready to face whatever action for that," he stated.
He argued that orders given by Parajuli as a judge have compromised the quality of medical education despite the Constitution mentioning quality health service as one of the fundamental rights of the citizens.
He also questioned qualification of CJ Parajuli and stressed that Parajuli should resign.
Senior advocate Surendra Bhandari started pleading on behalf of Dr KC after he finished his defense.
