CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has taken a dig at Dr Govinda KC, who has been on a hunger strike demanding resignation of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli, before leaving for Bangkok, Thailand for regular health checkup.
Organizing a press conference at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) before boarding the flight, he accused the government of trying to extend its term and sarcastically advised the Election Commission (EC) to ask Dr KC if there is any legal complication in announcement of results of House of Representatives (HoR) through proportional representation (PR) system.
"You may ask Dr Govinda KC if you feel there are any legal complications," he sarcastically advised the EC. KC is saying many things uninterrupted. What does that mean? The court may understand, know what that means," he quipped.
UML has been against the struggle of Dr KC for reform in medical education sector as Manmohan Memorial Medical College, which has investment of many UML leaders, cannot be operated in Kathmandu Valley if the sector were reformed as per Dr KC's demands.
Oli stressed on immediate change of government during the press conference. "You may remember, an election was held in this country. The current government remains in power as if there was no election. It first delayed in the name of ordinance for National Assembly. It now is trying to extend its tenure in the name of provincial capitals," Oli stated.
He also claimed that the real reason for delay in announcement of PR results for HoR was something else and not legal complications that the EC cites. "We hear that the EC is also becoming victim of blackmailing. It is for them to know," he said.
Oli, however, did not speak anything about unification with CPN (Maoist Center). He said he has to go to Bangkok for regular health checkups as he has had kidney transplant. He is scheduled to return back from Bangkok on Monday.
