Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya has broken the padlock put at the Rani Pokhari gate by various stakeholders related to Rani Pokhari preservation and his deputy mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi Tuesday morning.
While monitoring Rani Pokhari Tuesday morning, Khadgi said that the ongoing construction was started without permission from the Department of Archaeology. Khadgi was accompanied by cultural experts, archaeological experts and local preservation campaigners while padlocking Rani Pokhari.
The team led by mayor Shakya broke the padlock Tuesday afternoon using a metal rod. Shakya monitored the pond after removing the padlock.
Mayor Shakya claimed that reconstruction of the pond has begun as per the agreement signed earlier. He further stated that additional investigations will be launched about the matter.
