CPN (Maoist Center) has said unification with CPN-UML must precede formation of the new government. The meeting of the party's headquarters held at Parisdanda on Monday has concluded that the processes for formation of the new government and party unification must be taken forward together.
"The people have voted for us for party unification. We must, therefore, prioritize unification process together with government formation," Maoist Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal told Setopati after the meeting. "We must finish party unification before formation of the government instead."
The two parties had shared tickets for the federal and provincial assembly elections in 60:40 proportion. They had agrred then that the parties will be unified after the election.
Addressing the joint press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, UML Chairman KP Oli and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had also talked about party unification but had not set any deadline for that.
Second rung UML leaders, however, have been giving contradictory views about formation of new government and party chairman.
