The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Friday observed the 23rd metropolitan day.
Speaking at a program organized on the same occasion, Kathmandu mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said the durable peace was possible only through the civic participation in development endeavors. He insisted on people's direct participation in the development efforts to attain expected results.
He called on the Kathmandu denizens to feel their ownership in achievements of the KMC and further contribute to change its face and of the entire Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu deputy mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi was of the view that only the effective implementation of the concept of integrated development would help meet the goals of sustainable development.
KMC Office administrative officer Dhaniram Sharma pointed out the importance of coming up with a new vision and plan to address challenges seen in the urban management.
On the occasion, the Himalayan Bank (from the organization category) and Sushila Devi Basnet of Kathmandu-2 (individual) were honored with the 'best taxpayer' award. Likewise, KMC Office employees completing 25 years of service were given away the 'long-term service award'.
