Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar has defeated his rival CPN-UML candidate Bhagawati Chaudhary in Sunsari-3 by a narrow margin of 321 votes.
Gachchhadar secured 38,972 votes whereas Chaudhary garnered 38,652 votes. With this victory, this is his sixth win in a row in all elections he contested since 1991 from Sunsari district.
Vote counting was stalled from Monday morning after Chaudhary accused Gachhhadar of trying to rig counting. Counting in the provincial constituency of Sunsari-3 (B) was also consequently stalled.
She was leading by 155 when voting was stopped. It had increased when the last update was made after the resumption of counting on Tuesday but the deficit has fallen to just 62 now. There are still around 12,000 votes to be counted.
