More than 12,000 votes in the November 26 election to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies turned out invalid in the district.
Of the 76,173 votes cast under the election to the HoR, 7,054 votes were invalid, according to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer. Likewise, 3,136 votes among the 38,018 votes cast in State Assembly 'A' constituency and 2,590 of the 38,155 votes cast in State Assembly 'B' constituency of the district were invalidated.
The overall percentage of invalidity of votes in the district has been recorded to be 8.9 percent of the total votes cast.
The rate of invalidity in the recent past local level elections was only 2.35 percent, according to Chief Returning Officer Bishnu Prasad Gautam. The data of the proportional representation (PR) votes is yet to come out, which is likely to be higher.
