CPN-UML is leading the vote count even in the proportional representation (PR) system for the federal parliament but Nepali Congress (NC) is following very close unlike in the first past the post (FPTP) system.
UML has secured 342,967 votes while NC has 339,434 with almost one million votes counted, according to the Election Commission. CPN Maoist Center is a distant third with 169, 207 with the rest of the parties are far behind, below even the three-percent threshold necessary for winning seats through the PR system.
Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) is fourth with 24,942 followed by Bibeksheel Sajha at 17,173, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) 14,213, Naya Shakti Nepal 12,619, RPP-Democratic 7,480 and Rastriya Janamorcha 5,758.
