A main celebration committee has been formed to observe the 2,563rd Buddha Jayanti (Birth Anniversary of Gautam Buddha).
The committee led by the Bouddhanath Area Development Committee comprises around 80 organisations in the Bouddha area. Various programs have been set to observe the week-long celebration starting May 15, said the Committee chairperson Chandra Man Lama.
As part of the program, a Pragya Paramita (the sacred texts of Buddhism) recitation program would be held on May 15, 16 and 17 in the premises of Bouddha Chaitya, said the organizer, Buddha's precepts translation committee. A total of 25 Lamas will recite the texts.
Likewise, on May 17, a clean-up campaign will be organised in the Bouddha premises, and a peace run along the Bouddha-Swayambhu-Namobuddha route on May 18. A special puja will be conducted at Bouddha Stupa on May 18 morning, and a peace rally organised along the Bouddha-Chabahil route in the afternoon.
