A watershed will be constructed in Sainamaina in Rupandehi in a bid to conserve Chure area, and promote water tourism, said the Sainamaina Municipality.
The construction process has started, and the project also aims to provide irrigation facility, said the municipality's mayor Chitra Bahadur Karki.
The construction site lies in the lap of Chure Mountain, and spread over 50 bighas of land, where 40 meters high embankment will be constructed, he said.
The project was proposed to the President Chure Conservation Committee (PCCC) by former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel and Karki, and following this, a technical team led by Chairperson of the PCCC Birendra Yadav inspected the site and identified the area as a suitable site to construct a watershed.
"We have plans to build physical infrastructures for tourists, as well as fun-seekers, hotels, resorts, and operate boat service in the area," Karki said.
