A dry landslide blocked the Remunang River in the area opposite Samdo-Larke Bazaar in Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, Gorkha, on Friday, creating a lake.
Chumanubri Rural Municipality Chairperson Nima Lama told Setopati that the landslide had blocked the river and formed a lake. However, he had received information that since water was flowing out of the lake, there appeared to be no immediate major risk, he added.
The Remunang River is a tributary of the Budhi Gandaki River.
Authorities have urged people to remain cautious, warning that the lake formed by the landslide could burst at any time, potentially affecting downstream areas.
According to Dharke Hirachan of Samagaun, water is still flowing through the Remunang River.
"Water is flowing through the river, but the landslide has created a huge lake, which could burst suddenly. People need to remain alert," he said.
The Remunang River is a tributary of the Budhi Gandaki on its Nubri side.
On October 11, a flood in the Ungilung-Syar stream on the Chum side of the Budhi Gandaki swept away houses and sheds, bridges, roads, trekking trails, and other infrastructure.
