Youths on hunger strike at Manaslu Base Camp over glacial lake risks

Young people have begun a hunger strike at the Manaslu Base Camp in Gorkha.

The hunger strike entered in third day on Sunday.

Eleven youths from Wards 1 and 7 of Chumanubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha are staging the hunger strike at the base camp, demanding measures to reduce the risks posed by glacial lakes.

According to Dawa Norbu Lama, they are staging the hunger strike at the base camp, which is located at an altitude of 5,030 meters.

It has been snowing at the base camp for the past few days. The youths have continued their hunger strike amid the snowfall, and reports say some have begun experiencing health problems.

The District Administration Office and the Manaslu Conservation Area Project under the National Trust for Nature Conservation have called on the protesters to end their hunger strike and enter into talks.
