Sambhav Sirohiya has resigned as managing director of Kantipur Media Group (KMG).
Kantipur reported that he resigned with effect from Thursday itself.
According to Kantipur, he sent a message addressing all employees of KMG announcing his resignation.
“In his resignation, Sirohiya mentioned his serious disagreement with Kantipur’s recent reporting – especially the news stories written about Home Minister Sudan Gurung. He wrote that the allegations were presented in a sensational manner, adding, ‘I cannot lead transformation by associating my name with journalism that I do not believe in.’”
Kantipur stated that it had obtained details of suspicious transactions involving Home Minister Gurung from sources within investigative agencies and made them public.
“They included facts mentioned in those details and the questions that remained unanswered up to that point,” Kantipur wrote.
According to Kantipur’s report, Sirohiya also wrote in his resignation that Kantipur had weakened the new government making unverified allegations before it could even work.
On Thursday morning, Sirohiya shared links and screenshots of news reports regarding Home Minister Gurung posted by Kantipur Television on social media.
In the post, he wrote, “This looks like mission journalism, but I don’t know whose mission it is.”
Sirohiya was appointed managing director of KMG in 2023. Before that, he served as chief executive officer.
Before him, his father Kailash Sirohiya was the managing director.
