World Meditation Day was marked on Sunday morning at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu.
Minister for Education Mahabir Pun also attended the event.
The United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed December 21 as World Meditation Day in 2024, recognizing yoga and meditation as complementary approaches to health.
That year, the Nepal government organized an event at Tundikhel to observe World Meditation Day for the first time.
This year, too, the day was observed under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Those involved in this field say that Nepal should be developed as the world’s “meditation capital.”
The United Nations recognized World Meditation Day after 11 years of continuous efforts. The proposal had been advanced since 2014.
On December 7, 2024, the UN General Assembly passed the proposal submitted by 18 countries including Nepal.
