The Special Court has ordered the release of Sunil Paudel, the former executive director of the National Information Technology Center who faces corruption charges, on bail.
A bench of Special Court Chairman Tek Narayan Kunwar and members Murari Babu Shrestha and Bidur Koirala issued the order on Sunday, directing Paudel's release on a bail of Rs 100,000.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Paudel, six other individuals and one company on July 11, accusing them of illicit gains.
Along with Paudel, the CIAA filed charges against then-director of the NITC Saphal Shrestha, assistant director Ramesh Pokharel, computer engineer Ramsharan Gayak, accounts officer Nim Bahadur Oli, World Distribution Nepal Pvt Ltd located at Kantipath, Kathmandu, and the company’s chairman and managing director Arun Shrestha.
They were accused of committing corruption by supplying storage with substandard processor and submitting false documents.
The CIAA sought Rs 158.85 million in damages from them.
