The Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Kathmandu, has prohibited road digging from June 17 to September 16.
The office issued a public notice stating that road digging has been banned because, during the monsoon season, immediate repair and restoration of roads dug for water supply, drainage, electricity, telephone, and other purposes are not possible, and the roads further deteriorate.
"Since roads dug for water supply, drainage, electricity, telephone, and other purposes cannot be immediately repaired and restored during the monsoon season, and the roads also continue to deteriorate further, this notice has been published for the information of all concerned that permission will not be granted to dig any roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Divisions under this office from June 17, 2025, to September 16, 2025. If anyone is found digging roads without permission, strict action will be taken as per the Public Roads Act, 1974," the notice reads.
There are 10 Road Divisions under the office, and all have been instructed through a circular not to grant permission for road digging.
