The habeas corpus petition filed by Yunus Ansari has been dismissed.
Ansari had approached the Patan High Court with a habeas corpus petition, claiming that he was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police immediately after being released from prison. He had named the CIB’s Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Division as a respondent.
On Tuesday, a bench of Judges Rishi Rajbhandari and Kavi Prasad Neupane dismissed his habeas corpus petition.
On June 15, Judge Durga Prasad Dhungel’s bench had issued a show-cause order and demanded a written response from the respondents.
Ansari was released from Nakkhu Prison on May 24 after serving a six-year sentence in a counterfeit currency case. However, the CIB immediately arrested him, citing the need for further investigation, and placed him in custody.
The CIB is currently investigating him for money laundering offenses.
Ansari was arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport with counterfeit Indian rupees worth Rs 76.79 million. He was apprehended while going to receive three Pakistani nationals from Qatar.
Ansari was arrested in a counterfeit currency case before that as well. He was shot inside the prison at the time but only sustained injuries.
