The track of Janakpur-Jaynagar railway has been swept away by flood.
Around 200 meters of track at Inaruwa near the Indian border has been swept away by the swollen Kamala river following incessant rain, according to Director General at the Department of Railways Balaram Mishra.
"Our technicians have not been able to go to some of the places. Around one meter of water has accumulated at many places," Mishra told Setopati. "We are collecting details of losses at other places as well.
The Janakpur railway station has been inundated while water has entered staff quarters.
Laying of the railway track was completed in October 2018.
A train had arrived from the Indian town of Jayanagar to Janakpur in the third week of October 2018 carrying ballast to lay on the track.
The government has already initiated procurement process to procure trains from India to operate in the sector.
It plans to operate the service in a total distance of 35 kilometers in the first phase. The trial of first phase has been already carried out. The Department is not in the position of predicting the date for launching the service until the trains arrive.
The total length of the Bardibas-Janakpur-Jaynagar-Kurtha-Bijayapura is 69 kilometers.
