A clash involving stone-pelting occurred between locals and a team of municipal police and Nepal Police after the Manohara settlement in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) was bulldozed on Friday.
Superintendent of Police Dinesh Aryal of KMC Police said that the clash took place when the settlement, built by encroaching on the land of the Manohara Land Pooling Project, was being demolished.
According to him, the KMC had issued a notice three months ago to remove structures built on the project’s land.
“We had asked them three months ago to remove the houses and shanties built in the squatter settlement,” Aryal said. “But they had been defying the notice. Today, we took demolished those structures.”
He said that 25-30 shanties had been built by encroaching on the project’s land.
