Chief Minister (CM) of Gandaki province Prithvi Subba Gurung has called for proper management of sex trade in Pokhara.
"We should either set up a red light area," CM Gurung said addressing a program organized by the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) in Pokhara on Tuesday. "We should issue identity cards to sex workers if we don't open red light area."
He proposed that the government should later levy tax after issuing identity cards to sex workers. "The sex trade continues despite our efforts to stop it. This has provided an opportunity for a few persons to illegally earn money in lack of proper management."
He pointed how visitors going to Pokhara throng the Lake Side in search of sex workers. "One can go to any hotel after issue of identity cards and produce the card if the police come to check," he argued.
He also opined that the Lake Side should remain opened round the clock.
