78-year-old man dies after falling into river

An elderly man who accidentally fell into the Trishuli river at Devghat of Bharatpur metropolis-1 in Chitwan Monday while observing the Maghe Sankranti festival died later on the way to a hospital. The District Police Office, Chitwan confirmed the deceased as Padamnath Adhikari, 78, of Ratnangar municipality-3, Chitwan. He accidentally slipped and fell into the river at around 10:30 am Monday while taking a holy dip in the river. Though he was rescued alive from the confluence of Trishuli and Kaligandaki rivers some 300 meters away from the incident site in a serious condition, he breathed his last on the way to the Bharatpur Hospital. The body has been kept in the Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
