The Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation, a charity organization set up by comedian couple Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) and Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali) distributed blankets to 65 households of a Dalit settlement at Prem Nagar, Karjanha municipality-7 in Siraha district Sunday.
The Foundation provided the blankets to the impoverished Dalit families to help them fend off biting cold. The central Tarai districts including Siraha are currently in the grip of excessive cold triggered by a cold wave.
Journalists Shailendra Kranti, Deepak Mishra and Ram Narayan Mahato jointly distributed the blankets to the families in the witness of Karjanha municipality mayor Ganga Paswan and Karjanha municipality ward number 7 chairman Jaya Kishor Saha.
The Foundation has been distributing blankets to the needy families in other districts of the tarai as well.
Meanwhile, in Bara district of the central tarai, community and private schools in the district have been closed for four days more due to the increase in the cold. Before this, the District Education Office, Bara had closed the schools from December 31 to January 5.
