The police have opened the BP Highway obstructed by locals of Patlekhet in Kavre since early Tuesday morning using force.
The locals had obstructed the highway since Tuesday morning demanding that the family of a woman killed in a road accident three days ago be compensated.
Chief of Kavre Police Sahakul Thapa confirmed use of force to open the highway. "Five rounds of tear gas shells were fired to disperse the locals while clearing the highway. The situation is now under control," Thapa stated.
A woman was killed by a passenger bus in Patlekhet three days ago. The victim's family has been demanding Rs 1.20 million. The locals started the obstruction to put pressure on the bus operator that offered to pay just Rs 800,000.
