No Pesticide Use Week is beginning across the country from Monday with the slogan of 'Toxic-free world, a base for healthy life and ecology'.
The week is being jointly organized by the Crops Conservation Directorate, Direction Committee and the District Agriculture Development Offices under it.
Director of the Directorate Achyut Prasad Dhakal said that different districts would organize separate programs during the weeklong event.
The use of pesticides has severely affected human health and environment as well as has resulted in reduction of bees, reptiles and some other species.
The United Nations has also stated that pesticides pose threat to human health and the environment. Women and children are most affected in the developing countries due to merciless use of pesticides.
The Directorate said that around 355,000 people die of pesticides effects every year in the world.
Nepal spent Rs 640 million to import pesticide last fiscal year while Rs 690 million is being spent in the current fiscal year.
