Dhanikar settlement of Mahottari living in darkness

Locals of Dhanikar settlement at Pipara rural municipality-3 in Mahottari district have been living in darkness for many years. A local Pappu Dhanikar said that there are 30 households in the settlement and not a single house of the settlement has got electricity so far. The families in the settlement are living in severe poverty and most of the houses have no roof. Some 200 members of the settlement are lighting their homes with the kerosene lamp in lack of power. An elderly person Jasodhiya Dhanikarni said that they are used to live in darkness. The locals, who are involved in making bamboo ware, have been facing problems in their livelihood and becoming poorer and poorer day by day as their profession is not earning enough to support their families.
