The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has barred vehicles from the premises of Pashupatinath Temple enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site from Tuesday.
According to Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) member secretary Pradeep Dhakal, the vehicles are prohibited from plying in order to retain religious environment in the site. Ambulances and hearses, however, will be allowed to ply in the temple premises.
The PADT has made arrangements for pilgrims owning vehicles to park them outside the temple premises. Dhakal further informed that the arrangement for vehicle pass has been made for locals coordinating with the ward office.
The MTPD has already declared the main tourist hub of the capital, Thamel as a walking zone in October.
