The fire that broke out at the Super Gas Plant based in Patelnagar of Raghunathpur in Birgunj Metropolis-18 Wednesday morning has been brought under control, according to Gokul Bhandari, the President of the LP Gas Industries Association. The fire started at 6 am today.
Speaking in a press conference organized at the office of the Association here, Bhandari said that two people were killed and six others injured in the fire. He said that details of further losses were still awaited as the collection of details of the damage caused by the massive fire was underway.
He said the fire started from a spark while a driver a tried to start his vehicle.
"In the 48 years long history of operation of gas industry in Nepal it is the first incident of fire inside a gas industry," he said. Many LPG cylinders had exploded in the incident but the exact number was not known.
Bhandari further added that the Indian vehicles and the gas bullets operating in the gas industry are estimated to be 20 years old and the incident happened for this reason.
The Association has formed a five-member investigation committee under the coordination of Shiva Kumar Ghimire to probe into the cause of the fire at the Super Gas Industry and submit a report on this to the Association.
The other members of the committee include Kush Prasad Malli, Bijaya Hari Sharma, Manoj Kumar Das and Raj Kumar Sindhi.
