The full court of the Supreme Court has urged the relevant authorities to investigate questions raised about the judiciary.
Supreme Court spokesperson and registrar Ashok Kumar Chhetri said that the full court made the request during a meeting that began at 9 a.m. on Monday and continued until 1 p.m.
“We urge the relevant authorities to investigate matters publicly published and broadcast without prejudice, in an impartial and independent manner, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and to make the findings public as soon as possible, supported by facts and evidence,” the court said in a statement.
However, the statement did not specify which authority should conduct the investigation or how it should proceed.
The court also urged not to accuse anyone before the investigation’s findings are available. It further called on the media not to publish or broadcast reports that could obstruct the administration of justice.
The Supreme Court also urged judges to continue carrying out their judicial duties without being distracted by news reports.
Recently, Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal faced criticism over reports that he had spoken with and met Inam Sapkota, who is under investigation for money laundering.
Justice Phuyal has acknowledged meeting and speaking with Sapkota. He has also claimed that Sapkota was arrested following a complaint filed by the judges themselves.
