Security personnel have been withdrawn from the CPN-UML’s central party office.
Bishma Adhikari, secretary of the party office, said that a team of the Armed Police Force (APF) returned from the party’s office in Chyasal on Monday.
According to Adhikari, five APF personnel had previously been deployed at the office around the clock.
“The number sometimes increased and sometimes decreased, but there were never fewer than five personnel deployed,” he said. “Armed police had been stationed there regularly ever since the party office moved to Chyasal. But there are no security personnel there now.”
The UML has been operating its party office in Chyasal since 2021.
The APF team had been providing security at the office until Sunday but withdrew on Monday.
However, APF spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Netra Prasad Karki claimed that there is no protocol for deploying security personnel at any political party’s office and denied that such personnel had been deployed there previously.
“There is no protocol for deploying personnel at any party office. We have not deployed them either,” he said.
A few days ago, the Home Ministry issued a notice directing security personnel deployed beyond the specified criteria for VVIPs and VIPs to return to their designated posts.
