Nepali Congress leader Kishor Singh Rathore has withdrawn his candidacy for party president.
Rathore was a candidate for the post of president at the party’s ongoing 15th general convention.
Organizing a press conference on Wednesday, Rathore said that he had withdrawn his candidacy and decided to support Gagan Thapa for party president.
Rathore said that the party must move forward together at a time when it is facing a crisis.
He said that unity within the party was essential and that he had decided to support Thapa’s proposal to move forward together.
Rathore also said that he would remain active in efforts to unite the Nepali Congress and move it forward.
Rathore is a general convention representative from Bardiya.
He was elected joint general secretary at the party’s 14th general convention.
Rathore, Thapa, and Shyam Krishna Khadka, a general convention representative from Kathmandu-6, had filed candidacies for party president on Tuesday.
