CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has said that the party will not call a special general convention.
Speaking to journalists after a task force meeting held in Chyasal on Sunday, Basnet said that discussions had been held on whether to convene a special general convention or a special statute convention. “It was concluded that it would not be appropriate to convene one at this time, so it will not be called,” he said.
He also said that it would be natural to discuss the party leadership at the regular general convention.
According to Basnet, it was also agreed that there would be no demand for party Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s resignation.
“There was an agreement not to demand the chairman’s resignation anywhere, not to mention removing the chairman, and not to criticize the chairman,” he said.
Basnet said that the 70-year age limit for party leaders and the two-term limit could be included as agenda items for discussion at the regular statute convention.
He also said that three leaders would bring forward a unified proposal.
“Suggestions were collected from 13 groups, and it has been decided to include those suggestions in the annex. Now a common report will be presented,” he said.
