A no-confidence motion has been registered against Karnali province’s Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel.
Lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) filed the motion against the chief minister on Thursday.
According to NC lawmaker Suresh Adhikari, a total of 15 lawmakers – five from the NC and 10 from the NCP – registered the no-confidence motion.
Four NC ministers had collectively resigned from the provincial government on Wednesday. The resignation plunged the government led by Kandel, who is also the parliamentary party leader of the CPN-UML, into crisis.
“We have filed a no-confidence motion against the chief minister and have put forward Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi as the next chief minister,” Adhikari said.
The NC has said that it will not continue its coalition with the UML in the provinces and is seeking to form governments with the NCP and other parties.
The Karnali Provincial Assembly has 40 members.
