The Nepali Congress faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has inaugurated a party contact office in Chundevi and begun internal discussions.
Leaders from the Deuba faction, who did not participate in the special general convention held in January, gathered on Monday afternoon to discuss their future course of action.
Having completed provincial gatherings in all seven provinces, they are now discussing the date for a national gathering.
The meeting at Chundevi was held under the leadership of former acting president Khadka.
Leaders from the Shekhar Koirala faction did not participate in the discussion. Koirala had also boycotted the special general convention.
Only leaders close to Deuba and Khadka attended the meeting held at the Chundevi contact office.
Leaders participating in the discussion included Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, Shashank Koirala, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Umakant Chaudhary, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Anand Dhungana, Ramesh Lekhak, NP Saud, Jitjung Basnet, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Shyam Ghimire, Sudur Paschim Province President Bir Bahadur Balayar, and others.
They have said that the contact office was opened to prepare for the 15th general convention.
During Monday's meeting, former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka briefed leaders on developments since the special general convention.
Khadka said that his faction has been making efforts for party unity. He added that he had proposed to the establishment faction that 111 leaders be appointed as central committee members.
According to Khadka, Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma had proposed making him and Shekhar Koirala senior leaders, but he declined the offer.
Following the meeting, leader Min Bahadur Bishwakarma said that discussions will continue on Tuesday.
He also said that the faction decided to observe BP Memorial Day on July 22.
According to Bishwakarma, decisions regarding the schedule for the party's 15th general convention and future activities to be conducted through the newly opened contact office will be made on Tuesday.
He further alleged that statements made by party President Gagan Thapa have not been conducive to party unity.
"We will continue our efforts for party unity. We also discussed exploring alternative paths for the Congress," Bishwakarma said.
