The Nepali Congress has dissolved its sister organizations, including Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), that failed to hold their general conventions.
The party decided to dissolve these organizations citing their failure to hold general conventions within the stipulated timeframe and the lack of any viable grounds to believe they could do so in the near future.
Tarun Dal President Bidwan Gurung resigned recently, and Nepal Dalit Association President Lok Bahadur Bishwakarma also resigned from his post on Monday.
The party had earlier set a deadline of mid-April 2025 for all ad-hoc committees of sister organizations to hold their general conventions.
Additionally, a central committee meeting held from June 30 to July 7 last year had allowed deadline extensions for organizations that had at least submitted a general convention schedule.
To facilitate the process, the party had even formed a steering committee with a specific mandate. However, several sister organization – including Tarun Dal, NSU, Nepal Women’s Association, Nepal Dalit Association, and Sports Association – failed to conduct their general conventions within the scheduled timeframe.
Therefore, a meeting of the central committee on Monday concluded that there was no basis to continue extending deadlines.
“Since Nepal Tarun Dal President Bidwan Gurung and Nepal Dalit Association President Lok Bahadur Bishwakarma have resigned, the central committees of the respective sister organizations have been automatically dissolved,” the party said. “Decisions and nominations made by committees whose terms had expired are now automatically invalid. Accordingly, under Article 42 (1) of the Nepali Congress statute, responsibility has been given to the central committee president to make necessary arrangements for holding general conventions of all such dissolved sister organizations.”
However, since the general convention of the Nepal Tharu Association is already scheduled for May 30 and 31, its term has been extended until then, according to the party.
