Leaders from the non-establishment factions of the Nepali Congress are holding separate discussions.
Leader Purna Bahadur Khadka convened a gathering of leaders close to him on Tuesday in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu.
The meeting is attended by former vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, former general secretaries Shashank Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, as well as leaders Sujata Koirala, Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya Dina, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Umakant Chaudhary, among others.
Khadka had invited office-bearers and central committee members elected from the 14th general convention, province presidents, and district presidents to the meeting.
Most leaders from the faction of former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba are participating in the meeting.
However, leader Shekhar Koirala and other leaders from his faction, including Dhanraj Gurung, Badri Pandey, and Jeevan Pariyar, are not participating in Khadka’s gathering. Koirala had also skipped a previous meeting called by Khadka.
Earlier, Khadka and Koirala had appeared together when the case related to the special general convention was under consideration at the Supreme Court. But after the court dismissed the petition against the special general convention, Koirala has not attended meetings called by Khadka.
According to a former office-bearer close to Koirala, he is also planning a separate gathering. Preparations are underway to hold a Bagmati province-level gathering on April 30.
Following a special general convention held in January, a new central committee led by Gagan Thapa was formed. However, the factions of then-president Deuba, then vice-president Khadka, and leader Koirala did not participate in that convention.
