Three opposition parties have filed nominations for chairpersons of three parliamentary committees under the House of Representatives.
The CPN-UML has decided to contest for Education Committee chair, fielding Guru Baral as its candidate.
Similarly, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has filed a nomination for the chair of the Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies, and Obligations of the State – a joint committee of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. NCP Chief Whip Yuvaraj Dulal said that Madan Kumari Shah has been fielded as their candidate.
"The RSP did not consult with us at all. Since they want an election, we three opposition parties decided to field candidates in one committee each," Dulal said.
Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress (NC), has filed its nomination for the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
Since the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) decided to concede this seat to the NC, and fellow opposition parties UML and NCP have also pledged their support, the NC candidate is expected to be elected unopposed.
