The opposition party CPN-UML has decided not to vote for any candidate in the election for deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
UML lawmaker Guru Prasad Baral said that the party has decided not to vote for any candidate if voting takes place.
Saraswati Lama from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Ruby Kumari Thakur from the Shram Sanskriti Party are the candidates for the post of deputy speaker.
The largest party in the House, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has backed Thakur.
Similarly, the main opposition party Nepali Congress and the Nepali Communist Party have also decided to support her.
“If the Rastriya Prajatantra Party withdraws its candidacy, we will extend best wishes to the Shram Sanskriti Party’s candidate. However, if voting takes place, our stance will be ‘no vote,’” said Baral.
The House of Representatives meeting for the deputy speaker election is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
