The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to vote for Ruby Kumari Thakur, the candidate from the Shram Sanskriti Party, in the election for deputy speaker.
The decision was made by the NC parliamentary party during a discussion held on Friday.
According to NC office secretary Dinesh Thapa Magar, the party has formally decided to support Thakur for the post of deputy speaker.
Lawmakers agreed to back the Shram Sanskriti Party’s candidate at the request of party President Gagan Thapa and Vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma.
However, both Thapa and Sharma are not currently members of Parliament.
The NC has 38 lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
The party also said that lawmaker Basana Thapa is scheduled to speak in Friday’s meeting.
