Mamta Sharma, founding president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Madhes province committee, has joined the Nepali Congress (NC).
Sharma officially joined the NC during the party’s "Pratigya Sabha" (Commitment Assembly) held in Janakpur on Wednesday. She was welcomed into the fold by party President Gagan Thapa.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sharma announced that she had left the RSP, where she was serving as a member of the women and social development department.
She accused the party of failing to follow its own internal rules and procedures.
Upon joining the NC, she said that she left the RSP because it had become dominated by "tainted individuals."
"Since the RSP gave tickets to tainted people, my contributions were wasted. Therefore, I have left that party to join the Nepali Congress, a party that carries the spirit of Gen-Z and emphasizes good governance," she said.
