Supporters of former king Gyanendra Shah have reached the gate of Tribhuvan International Airport** to welcome him.
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has imposed a prohibitory order in and around the airport effective from Thursday.
The former king is arriving in Kathmandu from Jhapa on Friday.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan led by Durga Prasai, and other monarchist groups had called on supporters to be present at the airport to welcome him.
However, the Kathmandu administration issued the prohibitory order, citing the heightened election preparations and the enforcement of the election code of conduct. It stated that crowds, demonstrations, and sloganeering at a sensitive location like the airport could lead to infiltration.
Despite the order, supporters of the former king have gathered at the airport gate.
Police are attempting to disperse those assembled at the gate. A large number of security personnel have been deployed there since early morning.
Durga Prasai has also reached the airport area to welcome the former king.
