Nepali Congress (NC) has declared President Gagan Thapa as its candidate for prime minister.
The grand old party’s Central Committee meeting held on Friday decided to go into the election with NC President Thapa as the prime ministerial candidate. During the Central Committee meeting, Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma had presented the proposal to that regard.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Vice President Sharma stated that the proposal has been passed. He presented seven reasons in the meeting for why the party should go to the polls declaring Thapa as the prime ministerial candidate. He called this a demand of specific circumstances.
"Generally, there has been a tradition of putting forward an individual for the post of prime minister only after the election. But NC's preparation to present its candidate during the election campaign is an effort to correctly address the demands of the country's specific circumstances," he stated in the proposal.
The proposal also mentions that after declaration of the prime ministerial candidate, voters will be freed from tomorrow's uncertainty. Vice President Sharma stated that the party's Special General Convention has taken the resolve and plan to embrace the changes following the Gen-Z movement, take ownership of their issues, and establish good governance in the country.
He mentioned that NC has confidence Thapa can lead the changing times and voices in a dynamic manner. The fourth reason Vice President Sharma presented in the meeting was that Thapa possesses the maturity sought in a prime minister. "He does not just have a combative rebel image, but also the ability to resolve issues maturely by maintaining restraint during adverse times. The politics of excitement and impulse is neither cultured nor long-lasting. A personality becoming the country's prime minister must lead with a sense of restraint and a gentle nature rather than impulse. We have put forward a personality who possesses that strength as the most suitable for the post of prime minister," says the proposal presented by Vice President Sharma.
Additionally, he claimed that Thapa has proven to be strong in past democratic struggles and excellent in subsequent governance.
