CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that he will not testify before the inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9.
During an interview on Himalaya Television’s program Yaksha Prashna, Oli said he has repeatedly said that he would not visit the commission to give a statement and that he remains firm in his position.
Oli said that there is no point in giving a statement since the prime minister and the commission chair have already announced their conclusions in advance.
“The commission is supposed to investigate. It does not publish what the result will be,” he said. “They are people who have already announced the conclusion. The current prime minister and the chair of the commission had taken my name and said that so-and-so should be done to him. When they have already announced the conclusion, why should I give a statement? On what basis of trust should I give it? If they have already decided the result without taking the test, why should I go to take the test?”
Oli further challenged the authorities to shoot him or imprison him for life for refusing to testify.
"If I refuse to give a statement, they can shoot me. Someone committing such a crime and refusing to take the test when the result is already out should be shot. They have the guns. Why talk about small things? They can lock me up for life for not giving a statement," he said.
He added that if the commission officials visited his home, he would welcome them.
"If they come to my house, I will welcome them with respect, offer them tea, talk, and see them off," he said.
Oli also mentioned that he would travel outside the Kathmandu Valley if necessary.
“If I need to go out, I will go. I will go outside the Valley. I will go whenever I need to. Do I need to ask an unconstitutional government to exercise my constitutional rights? I will contest elections from Kavre. I will contest from Ramechhap, from Parbat, from my own constituency. Am I not allowed to go there? They call us to take part in elections and then say we are not allowed to go?” he said.
