CPN-UML Senior Vice-chairman Ishwar Pokharel has said that party Chairman KP Sharma Oli must give a statement to the inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9.
Speaking at an interaction with journalists held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel said that Oli must appear before the inquiry commission and testify because he was the head of government at the time.
“It is a commission formed by the government. We may have some reservations, but he must go to give his statement. If it were me, I would have gone. In fact, I probably would have gone even earlier. Disobeying it does not send a good message,” he said.
Pokharel said that even though there are questions regarding the credibility of the commission since its chairperson is seen as favoring one side, Oli should still give his statement.
He also expressed confidence that Chairman Oli would give his statement soon.
“He will go. He will probably go soon,” he said.
Oli, however, has been saying that he will not give a statement to the commission.
