CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has proposed holding a special general convention.
During a meeting of the party’s office-bearers held at Paris Danda in Kathmandu on Sunday, Chairman Dahal proposed holding a special general convention in Mangsir (between mid-November and mid-December), Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun told Setopati.
According to Pun, Dahal also proposed dissolving the central committee. The central committee has been transformed into the general convention organizing committee, with Dahal as its coordinator. Party office-bearers and central committee members have been converted into members of the general convention organizing committee.
The party’s general convention held from December 26, 2021, to January 2, 2022, had decided to hold a special general convention within six months. Although discussions about a special convention had previously surfaced within the Maoist Center, Dahal had not shown interest in it.
Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma had been raising the issue of a special general convention for some time.
Following the protests by Gen Z youths on September 8 and 9, the KP Sharma Oli government fell, and an interim government led by Sushila Karki was formed.
The Maoist Center has put forward the proposal for a special general convention at a time when there are discussions about the need for political parties to undergo transformation.
